Highly porous materials for selective and specific adsorption of gases

The separation of (trace) components from gases can often be carried out cost-effectively by adsorptive gas cleaning. Porous materials such as activated carbon, zeolites or novel hybrid materials ,for example, metal-organic framework compounds (Metal-Organic Frameworks - MOFs) are used for this purpose. Due to their structure and chemical composition, these materials are able to selectively pick up gases (e. g. impurities) and remove them from the gas stream.

These adsorption filters are used, for example, in extractor hoods to reduce odor, as respiratory filters to separate toxic air components or as industrial exhaust air filters to reduce emissions of pollutants or odors, or as filtration modules in the interior to improve air quality.

Fraunhofer IWS offers the possibility to develop and analyse adsorptive or catalytic filters according to the relevant application requirements.
