At a glance – every human being is unique. This also applies to their response to drugs or chemicals. To predict these individual biological responses, toxicological and pharmacological studies use living sections of human organs prior to initial use in humans. Until now, these tissue sections have only been available for a short period of time. Storage is virtually impossible and undoubtedly the greatest limitation to the widespread use of living tissue sections as test systems for drug development.
