SAXFUSION – Competence Network Fusion Research in Saxony
Motivation
Controlled nuclear fusion is considered one of the most promising energy sources of the future – clean, safe, emission-free, and capable of providing baseload power. However, before visionary experiments can evolve into practical power plants, crucial technological challenges must still be addressed.
With SAXFUSION, Saxony is establishing its first state-wide competence network for fusion research. The consortium is led by the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), which contributes decades of expertise in laser, plasma, and materials research.
Fraunhofer IWS plays a key role: transferring scientific knowledge into industrial applications. This is intended to give companies – especially small and medium-sized enterprises – early access to emerging markets related to fusion energy.
