Apprenticeship trainee positions
Fraunhofer IWS
Fraunhofer IWS offers two recognized occupations: mechatronic technicians and materials tester. Appointment, payment and social benefit are conform with the labour contract of the civil service (TVöD).
- Mechatronic technicians
- Materials tester
Mechatronic technicians
Training programme
- 3 1/2 years
Working fields
Mechatronic technicians assemble complex mechatronical systems, consisting of mechanical, electrical and electronical components, e.g. robots for industrial applications.
They prepare single components and assemble them to systems and devices. They establish the operation, do the programming, or install the software.
Mechatronic technicians follow circuit diagrams and drawings, they carefully test the systems before they are delivered to the customer. Beyond these task, mechatronic technicians maintain and repair mechatronical systems.
Requirements
Profound knowledge in mathematics are indispensible, since measured data have to be calculated and evaluated. Knowledge in informatics are very advantageous, because they are important for hard and software components. Furthermore good marks in physics, German and English are important.
Cooperation
- with Metall- und Elektroausbildung GmbH, Zum Alten Dessauer 1, 01723 Kesselsdorf
Vocational school
- Berufliches Schulzentrum für Elektrotechnik, Strehlener Platz 2, 01219 Dresden
Materials tester
Training programme
- 3 1/2 years
The apprenticeship focuses on
- mechanical engineering
Skills
During your training program you will learn to investigate metallic materials and to modify their characteristics by technological processes on your own. You will acquire basic knowledge in metal processing.
Since you will have profound knowledge about the previous processing steps you will be able to detect defects and to analyze them and furthermore to consult about possible sources of error.
The testing methods are subject to standardized guidelines.
Working fields
Focus: mechanical engineering: You investigate given metallic or non-metallic materials for defects and you control the constant quality of the product. You will try to find the reasons for possible defects. You will determine material characteristics (e.g. hardness, strength, deformability, tenacity by destructive and non- destructive testing methods.
You will have most modern testing devices at your disposal. With the metallographic microscope you will investigate the inner structure of metals. A detailed documentation of the measuring results belongs also o your tasks.
Requirements
- good marks in mathematics, physics, German and English
Cooperation
- alternating : Metall- und Elektroausbildung gGmbH, Kesselsdorf and the vocational school (Staatliche Berufsschule für Keramik II, Selb bzw. Berufliches Schulzentrum für Technik und Wirtschaft „Julius Weißbach“, Freiberg)
