Prof. Dr. Eckhard Beyer received AILU International Award

The Association of Laser Users (AILU) honored Prof. Dr.-Ing. Eckhard Beyer for his extraordinary achievements in the field of industrial laser materials processing with the AILU International Award 2015. The Executive Director of the Fraunhofer-Institut für Werkstoff- und Strahltechnik IWS Dresden and Director of the Institute of Manufacturing Technology at the Technische Universität Dresden has supported the AILU as an active member for many years.

Prof. Beyer received the award as a pioneer and leading international scientist in the field of laser materials processing. With this award, the AILU thanks and honors Prof. Beyer for his many contributions and presentations provided to laser users in the United Kingdom. The award was presented during the ILAS 2015 Symposium on the evening of March 17th, 2015. On March 18th, Prof. Beyer gave a presentation on the developments of laser materials processing in the manufacturing industry at the ILAS 2015 Symposium.

Personal details:

From 1985 to 1996 Prof. Dr.-Ing. Eckhard Beyer was employed as a scientist at the Fraunhofer-Institut für Lasertechnik Aachen. In 1997 he was simultaneously appointed the position of Executive Director of the IWS and of the Chair “Laser and Surface Technology“, Technische Universität Dresden. In 2003 he became Executive Director of the Institute of Manufacturing Technology at the Technische Universität Dresden. From 2003 to 2009 he was the spokesman for the Fraunhofer Group Surface Technology and Photonics and a member of the Executive Committee of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. From 2009 to 2012 he took over as the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technische Universität Dresden. In 2008 he was honored by the Laser Institute of America with the Arthur L. Schawlow Award. In 2012 Prof. Beyer received the Fraunhofer Medal for his outstanding contributions to the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. In 2013 he obtained an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Wroclaw.
