Flexible 3D processing by laser based build up welding processes with integrated material feeding (FLEXILAS)
The introduction of the FLEXILAS principle means that a new beam tool for cladding processes with integrated wire feeding is now available. For the first time direction independence and 3 D capability could be achieved for wires due to a wire nozzle, integrated into the laser beam axis. Especially for high precision cladding ( weld track width < 1mm), this technology is an important alternative to commercial cladding processes with coaxial powder feed.
The material utilization is 100%, the weld material is cost-saving and there is a smaller danger of soiling machine and environment. Due to the application of flux-cord and solid wires, there is a broad spectrum of processible additive materials. This kind of laser cladding became applicable by the help of a laser processing head.
The research and development project was funded by the BMBF within the framework “Research of tomorrow’s manufacturing” and was supervised by the Projektträger Karlsruhe PTKA.
