Ultra thin protection layers

Dense, ultra-thin protective layers can be fabricated by the filtered high-current arc (HCA) technology, e.g., surfaces of data storage devices (hard disks). Diamor® ta-C coatings, only a few nanometers thick, create extremely smooth and dense coatings, which are extremely wear resistant. They are ideal ultra-thin protective layers for micro-and nanosystems.

For computer hard disks as well as reading/writing heads we could successfully demonstrate the suitability of about 2 nm thick ta-C coatings

The use of advanced plasma filter is due to the high standards of purity defect for the deposition of ta-C layers.

Such coating systems have been successfully developed and were transferred to industrial applications by the IWS and the now spin-off company Precision Arc.
