Research of practical utility, internationally networked, lies at the heart of all activities pursued by the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft. The research has directly to serve industrial benefits and has hitherto advanced such revolutionary inventions like MP3, LED or clear window screens. No more than December 2011 ago, one of the 12 Dresden institutes was awarded with the most prestigious German Future Prize for the development of organic electronics. Among the inventions are pioneering developments such as laser technological processes, AutoTram, OLED area lightning, functional display coatings or interactive data glasses.

The site Dresden has developed to one of the largest Fraunhofer concentration areas in Germany during the last 20 years. More than 1300 employees work for Fraunhofer Dresden. There are outstanding networking processes with the local industry and the institutes generate a general volume of more than 130 million €.

The success can be recognized in the numerous new buildings, e.g. of the research center for resource saving energy technologies ( Bodenbacher Str.), the establishment of the nano electronic center ( Marie-Reiche Str.), the enlargement of the Institute Center ( Winterbergstr.) and the new construction of the technological laboratory ( Zeunerstr.).

The institutes cordially thank all pioneers and partners for their assistance and fruitful cooperation. Only a mutual network enables successful realizations of research results into industrial applications. Many thanks are therefore due to the Rektor of the TU Dreden and to all members of the Technische Universität Dresden, who enable the fruitful cooperation between Fraunhofer employees and renowned scientists.

The Dresden Fraunhofer institutes celebrate their 20 th anniversary on 2 March 2012 at the Airport Dresden, Terminal, together with their approved partners, sponsors, advisory board members and customers. As speakers, we are happy to announce the Prime Minister Stanislaw Tillich, the President of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft Prof. Hans-Jörg Bullinger, the First Mayor Dirk Hilbert and the Rector of the TU Dresden Prof. Hans Müller-Steinhagen.
