Dresden is the center of a highly dynamic region and belongs to the leading research sites of Germany. Furthermore the institute offers its services at additional sites in Germany and abroad.

  • Dresden

    In Dresden, the IWS strongly cooperates with the Chair of Laser and Surface Technology of the University of Technology Dresden (faculty Mechanical Engineering, Institute for Surface and Manufacturing).

  • Dortmund

    The Fraunhofer IWS is a partner at the Dortmunder OberflächenCentrum DOC and has a project group operating on site. This group develops coating processes based on PVD, PACVD and spraying techniques as well as focuses on laser materials processing.

  • Wroclaw / Poland

    The Fraunhofer project center was established in 2008. It works actively on establishing the Fraunhofer model in the Polish research market. The partnership with the Technical University in Wrocław represents the first Fraunhofer cooperation in Poland.

    The US market is one of the most important international benchmarks and innovation driving forces for applied research and development. Since 1994 the Fraunhofer IWS Dresden has been concentrating its USA activities within the "Fraunhofer Center for Coatings and Laser Applications" (CCL).
