Laser-welded collision bumper for a rail car constructed of sheet steel: Computer model of construction and finite-element analysis of stress under collision loading

Design solutions taking into account the effects of processes, materials, and loads are developed in close association with the process development and materials engineering sections of our Institute. We are able to draw upon our experience particularly in the areas of automobile construction (body work, powertrain, and chassis), rail car construction (rail car boxes, collision components), and aircraft construction (fuselage structure). Our range of services comprises:

  • component dimensioning, especially for laser-welded assemblies
  • localized laser hardening (laser peening) to optimize components for loads
  • static mechanical engineering calculations for deformation and stress analysis
  • dynamic mechanical engineering calculations for oscillatory analysis
